I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Silversmith. I am not from Chicago but knowing friends who are, they informed me that I was definitely going to be in a great location being one block away from Millennium Park and Michigan Ave. Once I arrived, the bellmen were very prompt and had my luggage handled before I knew it. One of the things I thought to be unique of the hotel is that the main lobby is elevated to the second floor. It was a very nice presentation once the elevator doors opened. The lobby was spacious with a nice atmosphere and the front desk was happy to greet me. I had a reservation for a suite, and it was absolutely gorgeous! There were very nice surprise personal touches in the suite including a variety platter. The suite was very large which was unexpected, and despite the L train I noticed right in front, it was very quiet and I slept very well. Their staff was helpful and friendly in addressing any additional needs I had. I highly recommend The Silversmith, as I will continue to come back and stay in the future.

I stayed here with family while visiting Chicago. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are of a decent size, and the people were wonderful. However, the doorman, Vincent, was the real treat! He greeted us, escorted us with our luggage to our room, and recommended some great places to eat (none of which included the restaurant next to the hotel.) On the way back to the airport, we decided to take the el, which drops off right in front of the hotel. He packed our bags (50 lbs each) to the platform for us!

This hotel is clean, and nice. The lobby is a great place to hide out if you want to get out of your room and read. Be aware that if you're looking to spend a great amount of time in your room, there isn't much of a view - it's surrounded by buildings and the el runs right in front. Don't be too afraid of the el, though - from the rooms we were in, you couldn't hear it unless it was really quiet, and then it sounded kind of like the ocean.

The location is great - it's surrounded by everything within walking distance. However, I would avoid two things: 1) The restaurant downstairs - it's pricey and not very good, and 2) Room service - it comes from the same restaurant. There's a corner bakery a 1/2 block south which does a great breakfast and lunch, or a diner called B&B's that's on the west side of the next block south that is much better and has a great breakfast special.

In all, it's a pleasant place, and great if you're on vacation or planning to do other things besides sit in your room.

We checked into the Silversmith Hotel on Friday May 15th. We had a suite and it was spacious and suited our needs perfectly.

We ordered room service the next morning so that we could sleep in a bit longer before our tour. This was most likely the worst room service I have ever had. We normally let things slide and hardly ever complain about service. They forgot one breakfast, cutlery, drinks and napkins. The food they did deliver was barely luke warm. I called down and was told that if I wanted it fixed I would have to come down to them, they only had two waiters on that morning.

Finally my husband went down and the person in charge was not going to do anything to correct the error. The manager happened to walk in and when told about the problem he said he would correct the bill. To add insult to injury they automatically add an 18% gratuity to the bill.
Our tour operator told me that we had a great place for breakfast and was astounded when I told her about the service we received.

We checked out on Monday and the bill had not been corrected, the person at the front desk did so though.
The location is good but for the money we spent I would go else where. Chicago is a great city to visit and we had a great time and good memories.

I just wanted to share this so that others can avoid the problem.

The manager lied to us. We tried to check in twice at 10am & noon. We checked our bags with the staff and were told both times that our reservation was in order but we should check in later in the afternoon. At 5:30pm, we were told that Silversmith had no room for us! They said that they could not give us a refund, because "Expedia" had our money. My sister had booked the room and prepaid in full through Hotels.com. They sent us a mile away (as we were walking everywhere, it was not a convenient location) with no compensation other than $10 for cabfare. We called Hotels.com and were told that they couldn't refund our $ because Silversmith already had it!

Booked through Groople at a decent rate (for Chicago). Was a bit worried after reading some of these reviews. But, no problem. Hotel rooms were spacious and furnished nicely. Great location, near the theaters, park, and restaurants. Only wierd thing was no glasses, only mugs, in rooms. Staff were all gracious and friendly. Kudos to Shannon, Patty and Vincent especially. Already planning next girls getaway for the same hotel.
