My husband and I LOVED our stay at the Crowne Plaza Silversmith over the Memorial Day holiday. We stayed two nights and paid $161/night + tax + valet, through a discount broker in Chicago. The hotel was a little hard to find at first - our online map showed that the hotel was on the east side of Wabash, but it's on the west side. Heading south on Wabash, look to the right for flags between Madison and Monroe. I thought the location was great, if you want to stay in the Loop/Theatre District/Grant Park area (and just a 5 minute CTA ride to River North). A taxi ride from Navy Pier cost about $8. The neighborhood is great, not seedy, as it's in the North Loop area, but it does feels more "downtown" than Michigan Ave's "uptown". When we got in, the front desk staff asked us if we'd stayed with them before, and as we hadn't, they upgraded us to a Suite (retails at $529/night). Absolutely beautiful room. We had asked for a high floor because of the El running parallel with Wabash at about 2nd/3rd floors. We still heard the El at night, but not too bad, sort of like a whooshing noise. The bed was doublesheeted and we had white robes to wear. The two TVs, ethernet connection and refridgerator were excellent amenities and the bed was super comfortable. Our tall windows let in a lot of light and had a window seat too. The view was of another building though. We ordered room service for lunch one day, and although many reviews thought the attached restaurant Ada's Deli was bad, the pastrami sandwich we ordered was fabulous. The gal who answered the room service phone wasn't very pleasant though. Also, our valet took coins from our car - they tell you to remove valuables but I guess that translates to "or else". It was only 90 cents, but it put a damper on our experience. Everything else about our trip was dandy though and we feel like the hotel is our home away from home in Chicago - especially if we can get that rate again.
