The lobby looks nice and the employees were pleasant. It all stops there. The rooms are not what you would expect for a Holiday Inn at this price range. The mattress was old and in poor condition, the carpets well worn and did not appear clean, and towels were thin and cheap looking. The hotel is about 2 blocks from Michigan Ave. Next time I am in Chicago, I will try the InterContinental on Michigan Ave or the Marriott where I have stayed before. Will not pay the price for the Holiday Inn with that poor of quality.

“Um, Yuck!”

DoubleTree Hotel Chicago - Magnificent Mile

Ok, I will admit that I had just come from staying at two very nice four star hotels, but really this place was yucky. It is old and tired. My first room: I noticed mold growing on the drapes and then there was an access panel in the bathroon that was just loose and could open easily onto very dusty dirty pipes with insulation showing. Double yuck. So, I asked for another room. It immediately smelled of smoke when myself and the bellman walked in the room. He suggested that we turn on the heater (an old yucky one) because it was "outside" air, which only mildly helped. I was too tired to fight it. The beds were old and uncomfortable, the shower was weak. The wifi didn't work, and there were no printed instructions and I was too tired to call the desk and figure it out. At the last two hotels I had no problem. I didn't notice bugs or other critters. I don't feel that this hotel has lived up to the tree star level.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The workers were friendly, the room was clean, and the workout facility was incredible. It is partnered with an athletic club, so you have a full workout area - including a lap pool. When in Chicago again, I will definitely check out this hotel. It is close to Mag Mile shopping & Navy Pier. It is also close to the Red LIne (Grand). I got a great deal on this hotel - less than 1/2 of what other downtown hotels were charging.

“Didn't hold a candle to the InterContinental”

After staying at the InterContinental just 4 blocks away two weeks earlier, this property was a real let down. It's a nice enough place, but I paid the same money...and dollar for dollar there was no comparison. I must have had some sweetheart deal on the IC. Boy was I spoiled.

This HI has a great lobby and lots of great service. A very helpful conscierge. But the room was ordinary at best--typical of all older Holiday Inn properties. No view either--from any room in the hotel according to the desk--even though you are only a few blocks from Navy Pier.

Where do plug in the iron?

All in all, a good place to lay your head and take a shower. Access to the Pier, Magnificent Mile and Rush St. was easy (cheap if by taxi). But try to pay less than $200.

“Great SERVICE!!!!!”

DoubleTree Hotel Chicago - Magnificent Mile

Oct 17, 2006

Skeptical at first, Hotel staff was great. They do need to familiarize themselves with the area more, no one really knew how to get to the other attractions outside of magnificent mile. I left my beloved Marc Jacobs coat there and they FEDEX'ed it right away.
